Koi Noboris (Koi flags) are often associated with Japan's children's day which takes place annually on May 5 and is the final celebration in Golden Week. It is a day set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness.
Koi Noboris are usually made with light fabric and are only hung outside during the month of May, but we think they as symbols of energy and happiness should be celebrated every day on your wall.
We have four colorful designs, all painted on pinewood by hand in Okinawa, Japan. Read along and find one that is right for you.
Limited Quantity Product
Each fish is hand-painted. In order to achieve the thick, rich colors on the surface, multiple layers of paint are applied. It is an extremely time-consuming process. We are currently limited to ten fish each month.
Design Options
Ryukyu Black
The black koi is the father koi is the largest in the koi nobori family. He appears at above other koi. In a Japanese family, the father is also known as the "Big Black Pole", hence the color black for this design. Ryukyu black is the darkest shade of black. During the Ryukyu era in Okinawa, the Ryukyu black was used to paint the symbol of the royal family.
Hibiscus Red
Second from the top in the koi nobori stack, is the mother koi. The mother koi is the gentle and protective figure in the family. Though traditionally she is in oriental red, for our collection, we incorporate a hint of yellow to resonate with the hibiscus flower of Okinawa.
Dreams to the Sea
Under father and mother koi on the koi nobori pole, are the children. This one is dedicated to the boy of the family. In Japanese culture, it is believed that one should go on a long journey one day to see the world. Little brother koi has a curious look and it is always looking up. He may be swimming in the pond today, but someday he will swim towards the sea for the journey of this life.
Emerald
Having a daughter is a blessing that brings a lot of joy and excitement in one's life. Girls are affectionate, loving, and curious and they fill the house with laughter and beauty. They are also very loyal, always ready to help and to get involved in new things. A daughter is the treasure of her family, like a piece of emerald.

Delivery schedule
Production time is 1-2 weeks, plus 5-7 business days to destinations in Japan (free). In person pickup in Okinawa can be arranged.
