In the southern city of Nanjo, tucked away behind fields of sugar cane, looking out over the ocean is the cosy studio of Master Hideyoshi - called “Hide Toubou” - where he creates his skillful works daily. The techniques he uses to create his pottery were passed down to him from his great uncle, Jiro Kinjo (1912 - 2004), who was the first Okinawan to receive the title of “Living National Treasure” for his pottery. The very techniques that were once regarded a “National Treasure” are inscribed into Hideyoshi’s majestic creations.
