Happiness is not a place or a thing you can own. Happiness is consist of moments of joy. They don't just come to us. To make happiness part of our life, we need to actively recognize moments of joy, engage, and enjoy it wholeheartedly. To capture and preserve the moments of happiness in Okinawa, we create four hand-drawn illustrations that depict four special moments of Okinawa life.
This one is about the moment taking a bite of an onigiri. Remember onigiri? The triangle rice ball wrapped in seaweed paper. Inside there is a variety of fillings. In Okinawa, onigiri fillings are unique due to the mix of local diet and influence from the American diet. It's only in Okinawa you will find rectangular onigiris with SPAM, bitter melon, or meat-based miso between two beds of rice. They look more like rice sandwiches than traditional onigiri.
The taste of Okinawa onigiri is unique, and you can only find it in Okinawa. This print depicts the special emotions come with taking the first bite of an onigiri. You may have eaten in by the beach, while you were driving, in front of a convenience store. Whatever your onigiri experience may be, we hope this illustration will help you preserve it.
